Even if you’re on the right track, you’ll get run over if you just sit there. ~Will Rogers
Considering a classroom at the dawn of a new academic session. Virtually all the students in the classroom desires to emerge as the first position at the end of the academic year. Alas! Do they all turn out to be the first? NO. The point is, having a desire for excellence or great achievement shows you have a potential for it. But desires isn’t just all to greatness. There is more to it. I firmly believe that if any man should achieve greatly in this generation, that man should be you. Yes, You. I had once written in one of my articles(Preparation for Opportunity) that God made you and He placed in you what makes you god on earth. However, many never realize this and as such, never achieve greatly.
I won’t annul the fact that their could be some factors associated to greatness. Moreover, I won’t also throw away the truth that even though one is born to be great, such person may not actually live that life of greatness if he sits back dining and wining on the prophecy of his greatness.
We can all start up on a high spirit as touching that great thing we desire to achieve. However, time will tell of what becomes of our initial zeal, either it be on the increase or it is gradually fading away. When the going gets tough, only the tough gets going.
Know this, whatever you find yourself to do, never settle for less. This is an attitude of every great achiever. Whenever you become so complacent about the little you have achieved, in no time, you will soon fade away or go into extinction. Many who did great in their generation and are still remembered for there greatness, are those who find something to live for and never lived their life less of it. They gave their all to what they believed. They did the ‘extra ‘.
An ‘extra’ in this context means doing beyond the norms and culture the society sees as usual criteria for greatness.
You really need to do the ‘extra’. This will give you an edge above your contemporaries and distinguish you among other men. Nobody will go for bronze in the presence of a refined gold. But never forget, refined good isn’t easily gotten as bronze is; it took an extra effort. Extraordinary accomplishment is very costly, be determined to pay the price.
You may be doing well now, never become complacent, you can do more. Equip yourself the more. Let the man who had gone one mile put more effort to go two and more. Friends, there is more to that which you are doing, be it a profession or a vocation. However, you need to give yourself to an ‘extra’, so as to do better. Extra time to build capacity, extra work, extra training, extra, more than the usual.
“If we are to give ourselves to extra work so as to achieve great feat, so, where is the place of God’s grace at work in our life? ” That, you may ask. Yes God’s grace. God’s grace is not a panacea for indolence. Apostle Paul, a great apostle of the Gospel said;
“But by the grace of God I am what I am, and His GRACE toward me was not in vain; but I LABORED more abundantly than they all, yet not I, but the grace of God which was with me.”
Therefore friends, God’s grace should be the moredriving force for you to do more.
